Why this Department at this University? In "The Good University Guide" issued by The Times, UK, this department is rated top in Scotland and 5th in the UK. The different Universities were ranked by the overall combined score from four indicators: assessments of teaching quality and research, average A-Level/Higher scores of entrants and destinations. The destinations figure is the percentage of graduates who go on to graduate-type jobs or further study. While being delighted with this result, we are committed to aim even higher. The Degree. The Department of Accounting & Finance offers the following degree, Bachelor of Accountancy, (BAcc). (Bachelor of Accountancy and Law has been withdrawn, with effect from September 2005.)Bachelor of Accountancy includesBAcc AccountancyBAcc Accountancy with FinanceBAcc Accountancy with International AccountingBAcc with LanguagesBAcc Joint Honours in Accountancy and EconomicsMore detailed information. For more information on the degree, work your way through the undergraduate section of Prospective Students on this web site, also check out Bachelor of Accountancy on the Glasgow University site and the downloadable booklet Accountancy. The BAcc degree is designed to allow you to obtain a broadly based honours degree in accounting and finance, the BAcc in Accounting, or to follow one of the specialist honours degrees variants. The BAcc with Finance and the BAcc with International Accounting allow you to specialise in particular aspects of the subject area, whilst the BAcc with Languages enables you to undertake language studies, normally continuing languages learnt at school, with the option of a year studying at a University abroad in your chosen language, perhaps in preparation for an international career in accounting or finance. Additionally you may wish to broaden your studies by studying for the BAcc Joint Honours with Economics. All versions of the BAcc degree have been accredited by the UK professional accountancy bodies. This gives maximum exemption from professional examinations of the Institutes of Chartered Accountants in Scotland (ICAS) and of England and Wales (ICAEW) and of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), and gives substantial exemptions from the examinations of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA). No other degrees at the University of Glasgow offer full accreditation by ICAS or ICAEW and not all degrees that include the study of Accountancy will provide exemptions from the professional examinations of the major accounting professions in the UK.Why study Accounting & Finance? The central role of accounting and finance in today's society makes the BAcc a sound basis for many stimulating and prestigious career opportunities; within the accounting profession, in financial services or in many other related areas, particularly in management. Your path into the accounting profession will be made easier by the accredited status awarded to the BAcc by the professional accounting bodies. Accredited status means that on graduation you will be eligible for exemptions from the professional exams of the main accounting bodies in the UK. Almost all our students are successful in gaining employment on or soon after graduation. We are proud of the BAcc students' employment record, which we believe is second to none in Scotland
